Book Review

‘F’ is for Fugitive by Sue Grafton – Though this book had some great twists and turns and not things I expected, they were very focused on weight in this book.  I enjoyed the suspense though and should have seen the outcome but I didn’t.  Nice twist.

Bossypants by Tina Fey – This book was cute.  Not as funny as I thought it would be but it was cute.   Quick read.  It wasn’t a very long book.  Would have been a faster book if I hadn’t forgotten it at work on a Monday when I had the Tuesday off…

Dating Dr. Notorius by Donna McDonald- I love series and this goes along with the Dating a Cougar that I read, part of the Never Too Late series. Regina finds love, which is hard for a well known sex therapist. Still a good romance, with a little adult (lots of it) content to go with it.

Dating a Saint by Donna McDonald – The third book in the series, I really do like series. I couldn’t put it down. Lauren had always lived life on the straight and narrow until Jim finally showed some attention to her.

Dating a Metro Man by Donna McDonald – Last one in the series. Some of the men in the books were a little pushy for my tastes, but I did enjoy the series and thankfully, all happy endings at the end of each book.

Happy Birthday by Danielle Steel – This is a typical Danielle Steel book but I love her still! I seem to be reading about a lot of romance between older people (what does that say about me??) though it wasn’t just an older woman’s romance. Three people share a birthday, a mother and daughter and then an ex-NFL player and it’s basically the story of what happens and how they end up sharing their life for the next year.

That makes 40 books read so far this year and I’m about halfway done with my next one already so that will be part of the next blog…

Some more reads from this summer…

Diary of a Mad Fat Girl by Stephanie McAfee – Not what I expected I think as I got it awhile ago and forgot what it was but at 125 pages, it was a super quick read.  And I think it was free or close to free through the Nook, so you can’t go wrong there.  What happens when three girls find themselves in three different predicaments (fired from a teaching job for having sex with a student, beaten by your husband and the love of your life coming back)?  Well, a few hilarious little trips to solve some problems and an unbelievable new friend (wish I had that one).  Cute little book.

Divorced, Desperate and Delicious by Christie Craig – Basically a Harlequin Romance book but a good quick read.  Had a little suspense and drama in it.  And of course, some good heart-warming love and other stuff.

Heaven is for Real by Todd and Sonja Burpo was a good book.  Nice little thing.

Divorced, Desperate and Dating by Christie Craig – Part 2 of the series that I started…still a good book though.

Divorced, Desperate and Deceived by Christie Craig – Part 3 of the above series…just a little more romance and actually, a bit more romance in this one as opposed to the last one.

Stars Collide by Janice Thompson – A nice romance about two actors who work together and fall together.  A little preachy in some parts but nice enough.

Dispatches from a Public Librarian by Scott Douglas – Thought this would be more interesting than it was.  He does mention a book that I might go look for instead though I can’t remember the name of that one.

‘E’ is for Evidence by Sue Grafton – Another one of her alphabet series and I enjoyed this one too.

Dating a Cougar by Donna McDonald – Another series that I have started.  Over 500 pages and I thought it was going to drag but I actually read it pretty fast.  The guy in it is a bit of a jerk and I wouldn’t date him, but a nice read.

I think that brings me to 34 books so far this year.  Not too bad.  I love to read and I’m having so much fun with my Nook!!

Book Reviews

So I’ve read a few more books since the last posting on this and thought I would tell you which ones…

“D” is for Deadbeat by Sue Grafton – I’m really liking this series, though with every other series I’ve ever read, I hate the chapter (or two) that tells about things that have already been said in previous books.  I only need to read about that once…Still a good series overall so far.

Any Man of Mine by Rachel Gibson – Cute book.  Another romantic one.  Sam is a football player and beautiful (so the book states) and made a mistake in Vegas that landed him a son.  The story centers around the two of them getting back in touch, along with the love being reignited between Autumn.

I Beat the  Odds by Michael Oher – Not what I thought it was going to be but still an alright book.  I’ve been in to reading non-fiction books recently and this one was harder to read (and I read it on the treadmill more often than not while in PA) but it was still not a bad book.

I’ll Walk Along by Mary Higgins Clark – This was an interesting book about someone’s double.  A woman’s son had been kidnapped years before and was made to look like she had taken him.  Lots of plot twists and came out to be not what I expected at all!  Was a really good book!

Lies that Chelsea Handler Told Me by Chelsea Handler – Though I don’t find her as funny as Jen Lancaster, she is still funny in parts of her books.  I don’t think I would want to be friends with her due to all the embarrassing things she does to her friends and staff.  Though I guess the perks might out weigh the fact that she is super mean!

Night Road by Kristin Hannah – Thank you Tanya for recommending this book!  Though I already had it on my Nook, I hadn’t read it yet and I loved this book!  Oh My God!  I cried, I laughed, I felt things that I didn’t think were possible!  This book was super good and am looking forward to reading more of hers.  I felt Jude’s pain.  I felt Lexi’s fears.  I felt Zach’s love for Mia.  I heard Mia singing.  I felt Miles losing everything.  Easily added to one of my top ten all-time favorite books.

Something Blue by Emily Griffin – have you ever wanted to hear someone else’s side of the story or see what happens at the end of a book (I wanted a little more at the end of Night Road)?  Well, that is what you get with Something Blue.  This is the part after Something Borrowed, giving you a glimpse into Darcy’s life before and after Rachel and Dex.  Another good, quick read.

The Castaway by Elin Hilderbrand – She might be one of my new favorite authors, which I might have said already when I did the last review.  This is a story about friendships that last through years and so many other things (death, affairs, etc) and what happens when one goes missing.

Again, not full out and out reviews, as I only just finished Night Road and it’s been over a month since I’ve read some of these, but little glimpses in to what I’ve read and it’s a little more for me to see what I have read over the year.  I think I just added eight books here, which seems like a lot since June 1st when I did the last post.  Holy crap!  I do get a lot of reading done.  I’m not sure when I find the time, though I did read three books while I was in Pennsylvania for the two weeks.  Oh well.  Twenty five books since starting at the beginning of this year.  I’ve been busy!

Book Reviews

So since getting my Nook, I’ve read a few books and haven’t had a chance to review them, so here is a quick thing:

10th Anniversary by James Patterson – good book though I don’t think it was the best of them.  Still, couldn’t stop reading the series.  Love it still!!

44 Charles by Danielle Steel – I have read all of her books and for awhile they were all starting to mesh together but I really liked this one.  It was a bit different.  It’s about a woman who ends up having to take in renters and though no one in my life is anything like these people (and I wouldn’t mind have two of them as friends), it was a good book.  I couldn’t put it down.

“C” is for Corpse by Sue Grafton – This one was another in a series (hence the “C”) but I really liked this one.  It was an intriguing story which I had actually started reading in a real paperback but I think it was when I had like 10 books out and I had started reading something else first and hadn’t gotten to that one yet.  When I finally did it was almost time to return it and I couldn’t renew it again.  It was a good one and I also had a hard time putting it down.

Something Borrowed by Emily Griffin – I read this one because the movie is coming out and I wanted to see it.  It was a cute story and I don’t read enough love stories anymore.  I really liked this one.

The Center of Everything by Laura Moriarty – This is a book about a girl, starting in 4th grade and the mess of a life she leads due to her Mom and Grandmother.  It’s a cute book and glad I found it.  I think it was in the free or pretty cheap part of Nook Deals.

I have been reading a ton since getting my Nook and I’m loving it.  I get in any snippet of reading I can!  It’s so much easier to carry this around, though don’t get me wrong.  A book isn’t hard either, but this ALWAYS fits in my purse where a book didn’t always.  I have it with me at all times so that I can open it up and read whenever I can!  I’m actually looking forward to cheer next year, when I sit and wait for Brittany outside the school because I don’t need a light on in the car to read it!  Yeah!

Almost Perfect by Julie Ortolon

A romance novel. I haven’t read one of these in a little bit and it was nice to read. I need a little more romance in my life and this one happens to be a trilogy, so there are two more to read. Can’t wait!! Have to add them to my wish list of books. This is about Madeline and Joe, who were a couple in love in high school and this takes place years later. This is them finding each other again and the lengths they go to get back together. Good book.

The Island by Elin Hilderbrand

Another good book by Elin Hilderbrand. This time she writes about four woman who spend a month on Tuckernuck Island off the coast of Nantucket. An island that I myself would love to visit, but it’s privately owned by the residents of it. Birdie and her daughters and her sister India spend the month of July after Birdie’s daughter Chess has a few major setbacks in her life. Chess and her sister Tate have their own issues that are dealt with, along with Birdie and India’s own private struggles. A great book for the time that I read. A family trying to be close even with not a lot of talking between them.

Nantucket Nights by Elin Hilderbrand

With friends like these, who needs enemies? Oh my! A bit of a page turner this book was. This book is about three woman who have been friends for 20 years and have a tradition that they have done for just as long. One goes missing and all hell breaks loose! I might have found my new favorite author!

Mini Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella

I haven’t kept up with these books like some have so it was a little odd to read this story, but it was cute. I enjoyed it though it wasn’t as much about her daughter as I expected it to be. At least not about her being a shopaholic. Maybe I just read in to it wrong. Oh well. Good book anyway.

Summer’s End by Danielle Steel

I love Danielle Steel even though all her books are pretty much the same thing over and over again. I haven’t read a lot of romance novels recently and it was nice to get lost in that again. She is just so good at romance and I love that about her. Deanna was married to Marc-Edouard for 18 years, but it was never a real marriage. Over the summer, while Marc was away, she met Ben and fell in love (quicker than I think is real, but it’s a book and not real life) and they had an amazing summer until the phone call came that changed everyone’s life. Not that I condone this sort of thing, but it was nice to see that romance happen. Nice book and a nice change from all the murder mysteries I have been reading. Now I have to find myself a nice Harlequin and I will be good! :)

Think Twice by Lisa Scottoline

This was a book about twins who were not raised together, had very different upbringings and who met under not so great circumstances.  Benny Rosato was a powerful lawyer when her twin sister Alice Connelly found her.  Alice was in prison for murder and Benny got her off.  After years of not knowing one another, they were thrust together.  Alice could be considered the “evil twin” in this circumstance and she proved that well!  Inviting Benny over to her “place”, she cooked her dinner and gave her wine with some Rophynol in it.  Benny found herself in a shallow grave in a makeshift coffin and needs to get out.  Alice, while Benny was trapped, took over her life to move her 3 million dollars in to an off shore account so she could get away from the life she was leading, which turned out not so great either.  Both Alice and Benny were not super close to anyone so it was easy to impersonate each other.  An amazing book that I couldn’t put down!  I would definitely recommend it to anyone!
